One of my favorite parts of Rock Fest is the weather, and despite the dreary, rainy weather that welcomed us to Rock Fest day 1, day 2 was way better! The sun was shining, and it was a toasty day that matched the set list for that day.
The first band my dad, friend, and I saw was the band 10 Years, who were performing in the beer tent. What I love about 10 Years is the lyrics of their songs. They’re a very blunt band, and they’re not afraid to tell you what they think. They did a wonderful show, filled with good music and witty conversations and interactions with the fans. In the future years, I can see them being on the main stage.
The next band up? Breaking Benjamin. Going into it, I really looked forward to seeing them, as I missed them at Rock Fest last year (Mackenzie and I stayed home to babysit my niece), and we were informed of the good show we missed. Unfortunately, though they had a good set list, one disappointment was barely being able to see and hear Ben, their lead singer, who is characterized by a unique voice, actually sing. Ben was, we believe, saving his voice, so his guitarist sung most of the songs, leaving us confused. Besides that, they were good.
Taking a break between bands, Mackenzie and I got our traditional sweet treat: deep-fried Oreos! With my sweet tooth, you could never go wrong with these delicious goodies!
The last act of the night was a band that I had always wanted to see, and was most excited to see out of all of the bands that were there this year. That band was Alice in Chains. Alice in Chains is known for their melodic singing and their rather dark and haunting lyrics. Their guitar riffs are infamous, and their music is definitely recognizable for its own personal touch that the band adds to it. William DuVall, the replacement for their late original singer, Layne Staley, served as a wonderful replacement, and the other boys played amazingly. Let’s just say that I was not disappointed with Alice in Chains, a band hailed as one of the best bands of the 90’s, and their performance. It was a perfect end to Rock Fest day 2! Stay tuned for the 3rd and final day of the best festival of the year!
